Surviving Being Dark: A Pedagogy of the Sacred for Survival in a Divided Society

Abstract

Historically, Blacks have out of necessity prioritized survival in educating their younger generations for existence in the racially hostile and divided context of the U.S. This education and religious education has occurred formally and informally in homes, schools, community organizations, and in congregations. This paper examines three aspects of survival: survival and emancipatory education, survival and justice, and survival with emerging Black generations. Three examples will be offered that highlight each aspect of survival. The examples will demonstrate how education generally and religious education in particular have undergirded pedagogies of the sacred for the survival of Black life.  相似文献   

Extended Validation of the Korean Version of the Quality of Life Survey

In this study, we examined the factor structure and reliability of the Korean Quality of Life (KQoL) survey and compared the KQoL survey to both the World Health Organization Quality of Life-Brief Version (WHOQOL-BREF) and the Satisfaction with Life Scale (SWLS). We also assessed associations between KQoL scores and physical activity (PA) participation. Participants were 557 (male = 281, female = 276) healthy Korean adults with ages between 18 and 71 years (M = 33.2, SD = 14.2). Results of confirmatory factor analyses confirmed the 7-subscale model and indicated acceptable values supporting convergent validity (χ² = 1,678.758, df = 443, p < .001, RMSR = .045, RMSEA = .071, TLI = .880, CFI = .892). Correlations of KQoL subscales with similar subscales of WHOQOL-BREF and with SWLS supported concurrent validity. Results confirm that the KQoL survey can assess multidimensional aspects of quality of life (QoL), including spiritual, physical, social, and psychological. KQoL scores were positively related to PA participation, in line with previous research supporting the positive association of PA with QoL.  相似文献   

Transforming in the visiting assistant professor role: collaborative self-study research in physical education teacher education

Transitioning into faculty roles can be a challenging experience. Responsibilities related to teaching, research, and service can be difficult to balance, and mismatch between personal preferences for work focus and instructional expectations can be problematic. This is particularly true of visiting assistant professors who want to work toward tenure-track positions, but whose current job focus is on teaching. Through transformative learning theory and employing the methodologies of self-study, we sought to understand the experiences of Kevin, the second author and a first-year visiting assistant professor. We draw data from Kevin's reflective journal and discussions between Kevin and his critical friend, Jim. Themes included (a) becoming an academic, (b) a hard-wired disposition toward work, and (c) influence of the VAP on emotional and personal health. Results are discussed through the lens of transformative learning theory and focus on Kevin's growth during his year as a visiting assistant professor.  相似文献

目的：锻炼与针刺组合对退行性膝关节炎微循环血流灌注量的影响。方法：研究对象40例随机分为2组，分别是针刺组（单纯针刺）和锻炼组（站桩与针刺组合），对其实验前后疼痛程度（VAS）、微循环血流灌注量（MBPU）及皮肤温度的变化进行检测分析。结果：两组实验后，VAS评分明显降低（P<0.01），锻炼组优于针刺组（P<0.05）；MBPU降低（P<0.01），锻炼组优于针刺组（P<0.05）；局部温度明显提高（P<0.05）。结论：锻炼与针刺组合可以明显缓解退行性膝关节炎的疼痛症状，降低局部微循环血流灌注量，提高皮肤温度；优于单纯针刺疗法。  相似文献

[目的/意义]图书馆管理制度内化是图书馆资源配置和管理创新的基础，论文旨在还原管理制度在图书馆组织内部的内化过程，并对各层级间的转换机制进行解释。[方法/过程]通过对3所案例图书馆的扎根理论研究构建高校图书馆管理制度内化的理论模型，从组织内化、过程机制和馆员内化3个维度综合考察高校图书馆管理制度内化的动因和表现，具体涵盖11个主范畴、41个范畴和164个初始概念。[结果/结论]高校图书馆管理制度内化是在图书馆组织内部构建起组织适应的内化基础后，通过过程机制形成与馆员层面匹配与转化的选择集合，最终由馆员根据理性计算和群体共识对管理制度形成内化并转化为组织内部规范内化的过程。  相似文献   

The biomechanical characteristics of high-performance endurance running

The biomechanical profile of high-level endurance runners may represent a useful model that could be used for developing training programmes designed to improve running style. This study, therefore, sought to compare the biomechanical characteristics of high-performance and recreational runners. Kinematic and kinetic measurements were taken during overground running from a cohort of 14 high-performance (8 male) and 14 recreational (8 male) runners, at four speeds ranging from 3.3 to 5.6?m?s^?1. Two-way ANOVA analysis was then used to explore group and speed effects and principal component analysis used to explore the interdependence of the tested variables. The data showed the high-performance runners to have a gait style characterised by an increased vertical velocity of the centre of mass and a flight time that was 11% longer than the recreational group. The high-performance group were also observed to adopt a forefoot strike pattern, to contact the ground with their foot closer to their body and to have a larger ankle moment. Importantly, although observed group differences were mostly independent of speed, the tested variables showed a high degree of interdependence suggesting an underlying unitary phenomenon. This is the first study to compare high-performance and recreational runners across a full range of kinematic and kinetic variables. The results suggest that high-performance runners maintain stride length with a prolonged aerial phase, rather than by landing with a more extended knee. These findings motivate future intervention studies that should investigate whether recreational runners could benefit from instruction to decrease shank inclination at foot contact.  相似文献

地球椭球模型中太阳位置计算的改进

准确高效的太阳位置计算在遥感辐射定标、太阳能获取等多个领域具有重要应用价值。针对传统太阳赤纬角算法对不同年份数据差异考虑不足的问题，采用数值拟合法提出适用于不同年份的改进公式。根据误差曲线所呈现的周期性，采用傅里叶展开法提出以4年为周期的赤纬角改进算法，并推导出地球椭球模型下的太阳高度角公式。蒙气差影响太阳位置观测与计算。针对传统蒙气差算法在低仰角下误差较大的问题，提出0°~30°仰角下蒙气差的改进公式。把改进算法与相应的传统算法进行误差对比，结果表明，改进算法在太阳赤纬角、太阳高度角、低仰角下蒙气差计算的误差均明显降低，计算过程简单高效，符合相关工程项目应用需求。  相似文献   

Ethical and political dimensions of action research and lesson study: reflections from a research project on a controversial issue in Cyprus

ABSTRACT

As educational interventions that integrate death issues in the school curriculum are rarely designed, implemented and evaluated, our action research (AR) project aimed at investigating the complexities of integrating the concepts of loss and grief in the primary school curriculum of Cyprus. The purpose of this paper is to identify and analyze convergences and divergences between AR and lesson study (LS), as they emerged in our project. We particularly focus on the ways that AR served to legitimate ethically and politically those aspects of the project that constituted the experimentation of lesson plans on loss and grief. The AR and LS elements of our project functioned differently and served different purposes, and we speculate that this is not irrelevant to the controversial aspects of the lesson plans’ topic, namely loss and grief. The paper argues that it may be strategically important, for ethical and political reasons, to both demarcate and associate AR and LS, navigating between them, particularly if a controversial issue is involved.  相似文献
